Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Our lymphatic system is a beautifully intricate network — quietly working behind the scenes to support immunity, fluid balance, cellular repair, and overall vitality. Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system has no central pump of its own. It relies on movement, breath, and manual support to keep fluid circulating and waste moving out of the tissues.
In today’s world — with environmental toxins, processed foods, chronic stress, and compromised air and water quality — our bodies work harder than ever to process and eliminate waste. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) supports this essential system, helping your body do what it’s designed to do, more efficiently and with greater ease. I offer MLD sessions in my downtown Santa Barbara studio, working with clients navigating a wide range of needs—from surgical-recovery to chronic inflammation to everday immune support.
Using gentle, intentional touch, MLD stimulates lymphatic flow, encouraging fluid to move toward filtering nodes and back into the circulatory system. Because this work relies on the skin’s natural elasticity, no oil or lotion is used — the goal is not to glide across tissue, but to create a precise, rhythmic movement that opens the lymphatic vessels and invites flow. The touch is light, deliberate, and deeply effective.
This is a specialized form of manual therapy, distinct from traditional massage. Many people are surprised by how gentle it is — and equally surprised by how much they feel afterward.
What to Expect During your Session
Full Body Lymphatic Drainage (75 Min):
A complete session following the anatomy of your lymphatic pathways. This foundational work supports healthy fluid circulation, reduces stagnation, and encourages the body’s natural detoxification processes. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing chronic inflammation, navigating an autoimmune condition, or simply wanting to support your immune system, this session creates space for your body to recalibrate and restore.
Full Body + Facial Lymphatic Drainage (90 Min):
This session includes full body lymphatic drainage with additional time dedicated to the face, neck, and jaw. Facial lymphatic work can be especially supportive for sinus congestion, puffiness, jaw tension, and TMJ. Gentle craniosacral holds are often woven in to support nervous system regulation, making this a deeply integrative experience.
Integrative Combo — 60 Min Integrative Massage + 60 Min MLD (120 Min):
This session begins with an hour of integrative massage, meeting your body where it is that day — releasing tension, working through the tissues, and creating openness throughout. The second hour is then devoted to lymphatic drainage, inviting everything that was just released to drain and integrate. The combination is especially powerful: massage prepares the tissue, and lymphatic drainage supports recovery, reduces inflammation, and promotes a deeper sense of restoration. A wonderful option for those who want the full benefits of both.

Session length and frequency are always individualized and guided by your body’s needs.
First Visit: 75 is recommended for full body work; 90 min is needed if you’d liek to include facial lymphatic drainage. This allows time to evaluate your body, introduce the lymphatic techniques, and begin supporting fluid flow and overall balance.
Follow Up Sessions: 75–90 minutes may be chosen depending on your goals and how your body responds. Longer sessions allow for a more comprehensive, full-body approach that that includes supporting the neck, face, and upper body alongside core lymphatic pathways.
Chronic Concerns or Post-Surgical Support: For ongoing patterns of congestion, fluid retention, or recovery needs, more consistent sessions—often weekly to biweekly over a short period—help your body integrate the work and respond optimally. Beginning work as soon as possible after any trauma, illness, or surgery supports the best outcomes.
Maintenance: Once balance is restored, periodic sessions can support continued lymphatic function, nervous system regulation, and overall vitality. Some clients schedule monthly visits; others come as needed.
Every session is tailored to your body, ensuring the work meets your unique needs and supports optimal results.
